What is Fair Deal?
- The ‘Fair Deal Scheme’ is an Irish Government scheme of financial support for people who need long-term nursing home care.
You make a contribution towards the cost of your care and the State pays the balance. - This applies whether the nursing home is public, private or voluntary. The HSE administers the Fair Deal Scheme within the resources available.
- Applicants cannot avail of State funding for a nursing home place PRIOR to receiving approval of their application.
- The great benefit of Fair Deal is the opportunity to choose which nursing home is most suitable.
- The scheme is open to anyone who has been living in the State for at least a year.
